Dungeon23: Greystone - Day 6
Major remodel today!
I wasn't at all happy with the layout of the last couple of rooms, so I moved them around! I think this feels much better as a logically laid out residence for a well-to-do Dwarven family. Those who have been following along will see that yesterday's Master Bedroom is now in the northern part of the house, along with the other bedroom. I may re-orient 1-1's window to face north. But that literally just occurred to my while typing this! :)
Anyway, in addition to moving some things around, I added a room today, so I'm still on pace! 1-6 is the Servants' Quarters / Service Entrance. There's a heavy, locked, metal door that opens out onto the street. Stairs lead up to the north and west, ending in doors. These appear to be normal doors on the stairs side, but are actually secret doors facing the rooms they open into. This was designed so that servants could come and go from these rooms discretely. They also have had the effect of hiding this entire room from the goblins.
There's some broken down bunks, a modest fireplace and service stairs leading down to level 2. I'm imagining some storage/utility functions in the lower level of this house, but that will adjoin other level 2 stuff as well. Don't have to think too much about that until February. Also in this room is a large cabinet containing all the dinnerware of the household. A large quantity of porcelain dishes are somewhat valuable, but a pain to get out of here and down the mountain without breaking. Easier to transport and more valuable is the sliver ware. But if adventurers wanted a "full clear" of the dungeon, it would definitely include the dishes. Can't imagine those will be the hardest treasure to get out of here.
This wasn't a great place to live and work for the servants. They were unhappy in life and are still unhappy. Eight of them persist as skeletons here. They can't unlock the metal door, but they do remember the secret doors, so sometimes go wandering in the rest of the house. That's why they're on the wandering monster list.
OK, I think that's all for today! Only one room left this week! That's the Great Hall and Main Entrance to the home. I'm imagining that part of what I'll do on Saturday or Sunday will be a bit of a weekly wrap up or summary of what I've done so far. That feels like a good way to call each week "done" and reset my mind for the next week.
Anyway, thanks for reading and talk to you tomorrow!
